What Is My Dream Job? Guide To Help You Discover Your Dream Job
What is my dream job? No one will ever be able to answer that question for you. The best others can do is to guide you to discovering it. The problem with dream job is that sometimes it could be an elusive dream.
You are of course free to dream the dream of your dreams. That dream job. What is my dream job, you ask? I would not know but here are some questions you can ask yourself and be guided by it to write a description of your dream job. I cannot promise you an answer and anyone who thinks they can is just lying to you.
We all change as we grow and our dreams change, what you think is your dream job now maybe a nightmare a few years down the road. That’s assuming you are not fickle minded. If you are the fickle minded sort, a dream job may turn into a nightmare in just a matter of months.
The fact that we say it is a dream job means we will attach a lot of impractical criteria to it. Here is a list of questions you can try to answer and hopefully help guide you towards the answer to what is my dream job.
- What is the objective of this job?
- How can the job help satisfy you? Make you feel fulfilled meaning you can feel appreciated and you have contributed. Who would you have helped?
- What is the balance you are looking for?
- What are you willing to trade? Money/Time/Family? Key considerations?
- What is the one MUST have? E.g. money, if it is money what are you willing to sacrifice to have this? Because once you sacrifice this or are willing to trade this then it may not be a dream job anymore.
- What rewards do you hope to achieve from this job?
- Is your dream job a job or a career?
- Do you grow into your dream job or do you go searching your dream job?
- How do you think a dream job will make you a happier or better person?
- Does other people's job always seem like a dream job but never yours?
- Are you willing to suffer and sacrifice for your dream job? Would it still be a dream job if you suffer & sacrifice time, friends, marriage, kids, etc?
- Have you painted your dream job so ideally that it's become unattainable?
- How will you succeed or excel when you find your dream job?
- What are the key ingredients/elements in making a job a dream job?
- How does one turn a job into a dream job?
- What do you have to do now in order to get to your dream job? Assuming you do not have your dream job yet. If you are at your dream job, why is it a dream job?
- What do you have to do to turn your current job into a dream job?
- If you are in your dream job now, you would be making / doing / earning /_____________ (complete the sentence). How much time, hard work, do you have to put in to get there?
- Describe the dream job - the industry, the position, your team, your boss, your subordinates, the location, the pay. Now, how will you get there? State your plans to get there.
- Who can help you get this dream job?
What is my dream job is never going to be an easy question to answer. But through a journey of discovery, experiments, constantly asking and mindfully seeking, you may just stumble upon your dream job.
