Develop Leadership Skill – A Criterion for Success in Your CareerThere will come a time in your career when you begin to ask how far will you go in your career. And you will begin to wonder what are some of the skills you will need in order to be prepared for that promotion opportunity. I will advice you this – develop leadership skill. No matter what your rank and designation is in your organization, it is never too early to start to developing your leadership skills. Just one or two of these leadership skills can help you begin to sharpen your journey to career success. Learning to develop leadership skills is a criterion for your career success whereby it allows you to step up to the plate when the situation arises. Imagine this, a crisis occurs at the workplace and someone at your level needs to attend to the situation at hand as the managers are busy with other tasks. If you have developed leadership skills early you would have been able to take on the task. What then are some of the simple leadership skills you should begin to look at? Are there some that will take more time to learn? Well, that depends. But based on my observation, perhaps these two will take some time for you to be skillful at: 1. Develop Leadership Skill - Confidence
Confidence here is about building the trust in people that you can lead to the group’s end objective. That confidence is built when they know you have capability of carrying the responsibility of a leader, and the skills and competencies that can lead them to that end result. 2. Develop Leadership Skill - Communication
When you develop leadership skill early, especially on communication – you win trust from the people in your unit. It helps them understand what is the overall objective, and it helps them understand how they are part of the bigger picture that helps achieve the corporate goals. This sharing of information via effective communication crystallizes what each of them are doing and therefore defines their role in the grander scheme of things. A criterion for success in your career is to develop leadership skill early. When you start early you allow for time to be your teacher.
